Biography – the Longer Version

When still a teenager, Rachel was offered her a data entry job that would “take about two weeks to finish.” Those two weeks turned into 15 wonderful years at the Christian Church Foundation for the Handicapped (aka CCFH Ministries, now known as Ability Ministry).

The data entry led to additional office tasks and then an administrator position. While working full-time and being a single mom to growing boys, Rachel earned her Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management, Magna cum Laude, from Tusculum University, Tennessee’s oldest university.

Rachel soon moved into leadership roles at CCFH. As Vice President of Fiscal Operations, she defined and developed strategic goals, directed internal audits of programs, designed and implemented policies and procedures, including an ethics policy. Rachel was also able to secure CCFH accreditation in the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA).

As Director of Development, Rachel managed the marketing to increase community awareness, created programs that increased monthly giving by 150%, developed sponsorship/scholarship programs to help those in need, wrote grants, and developed new fundraising events.

Since moving to Chicago in 2004, Rachel spent three years as the Business Manager of the Northern Region of the Jewish Community Centers of Chicago where she managed the business operation of the Northern Region’s headquarters community center and four satellite locations. Rachel trained and coached staff and identified, proposed, and implemented recommendations, increasing service levels while lowing administrative costs.

For 12 years, Rachel was the Business Administrator of a mid-sized congregation in the greater Chicago area. If it was not programming related, it was in Rachel’s job. Managing communication, including social media and electronic newsletters, all accounting, financial reporting, and budgetary processes, managing the property, property rental, HR functions, and IT oversite were just a few of her responsibilities.

Rachel has been an essential part of the leadership and worked closely with boards, staff, and volunteers at each position. She effectively managed conflict and a variety of personalities and always strives to do what is best for each organization. Rachel is also outgoing and engaging. She loves working with people and playing a role in so many nonprofit organizations.
